CrystalGalena crystallises in the cubic crystal system and then generally forms cubic crystals, often with "cut" sides (= cubooctahedron).

ApplicationGalena is an important lead ore.
It often contains a certain percentage silver (Ag) that also forms an important by-product of the lead extraction.
BelgiumBelgium had in the past many important galena occurrences, which have been exploited at many places.  The most important occurrences where situated in the basins of the rivers Meuse and Vesder and in the region of Moresnet.  The mineral also occurs in restricted quantities at several other places in Belgium, be it in small quantities.  It’s usually founds with sfalerite in rocks like schist, limestone and in eruptive rocks.
