Quartz from Opprebais
The crystal on the postage stamp form the Special issue: Minerals from Belgium was found in quartzite at Opprebais (Walloon Brabant).
The quarries in this region where known for their beautiful, large quartz cristals.  Crystals have been found with sizes reaching 50 cm!
In the quarry at Opprebais itself, crystals were generally smaller and they were frequently accompanied with the titan minerals rutile and anatase, with muscovite and frequently also tourmaline, what can be seen on the image.
